  • Project Pie – Customized Pizza

Pioneered by James Markham from the United States, the Project Pie design-build-eat pizza concept was on its 10th branch when I discovered it in Park Square Makati. The first visit gave an impression of a spacious place, youthful vibe and positive energy amidst the seemingly scary adventure one is about to embark on for having […]

The Japanese started to invade the Philippines last  December 1941. Ten hours after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and occupied our country from 1942-1945 and September 2, 1945 they surrendered.  In the last 3 years, I noticed that Japan has started to invade us again but this time, through our palate. When it comes to eating places, the name XO46 Heritage Bistro would have run the risk of being forgotten had it not been for what it stood for and the experience it gave me and my family when we tried it out for dinner. It was a long holiday and the Metropolis was unusually quiet since almost everyone is either out of town or stayed in their homes. It was so hard to find a restaurant that’s open and you were craving for something to eat. It’s worse when what you crave for is something infrequently ordered such as a grilled lamb, and you know for sure that the restaurant serving this would also be close. But […]

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries. Welcome to Side Tripper, a collection of photographs and blogs about the many side trip adventures of our family and friends. *Source: The Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the U.S. Travel Association (Los Angeles Times, December 17, 2013 by Chris Erskine)
