Chevron Philippines Inc. Introduces Caltex Carbon Offset Program to Mitigate Carbon Footprint

Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), the distributor of Caltex fuels and lubricants, unveils the Caltex Carbon Offset Program, a voluntary initiative available at Caltex service stations across the Philippines. This program mirrors similar launches in Malaysia and Singapore in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

The program enables customers to contribute to carbon offsetting efforts by utilizing their Caltex Rewards points. Through the CaltexGO app, Caltex Rewards members can redeem loyalty points for Carbon Offset vouchers, which are then converted into cash value. Chevron will invest the equivalent value of redeemed loyalty points into selected carbon offset projects in Indonesia and Cambodia.

The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project in Central Kalimantan aims to preserve 64,000 hectares of tropical peat swamp forest, home to endangered species like the Bornean orangutan. Similarly, the Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in Seima Protection Forest, Cambodia, covers over 290,000 hectares and has prevented the release of more than 20 million tons of CO2 emissions while supporting local communities.

These projects are registered, validated, and verified by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) program, ensuring credibility and impact. Billy Liu, CPI Country Chairman, emphasizes Chevron’s commitment to driving energy progress while addressing customer needs.

The Caltex Carbon Offset Program aligns with Chevron’s net zero aspiration for equity upstream Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries. Welcome to Side Tripper, a collection of photographs and blogs about the many side trip adventures of our family and friends. *Source: The Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the U.S. Travel Association (Los Angeles Times, December 17, 2013 by Chris Erskine)
