Summer Preparation – Summer Deals

Summer is fast approaching and as early as now, we already feel the summer heat even before getting that usual signal from PAGASA that we are officially on a summer season. By now, some of us already have plans on what fun things we are going to do during the summer. Beach goers may already be busy wondering what outfit to wear and where the new beautiful beaches or islands are.

If you ask me, I would consider the Calaguas Island in Camarines Sur and Waling Waling EcoVillage to be among the best places while Boracay Island is set to undergo a massive rehabilitation.

For parents, planning your kids’ summer activities has been in the plans as well. Sports clinics, dance and music schools and other personality enhancement activities will be booked as many parents we don’t want kids to just stay without any meaningful or useful activities during school breaks other than being hooked on using gadgets all day long.

We also need to prepare ourselves physically this summer. For instance, we must know how much water we should drink to prevent dehydration and to also regulate our body temperature to avoid other problems related to so much heat like stroke. As many of us may know, too much sun exposure poses some health risks.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
