GENERAL TIRE DEBUTS AT THE 2024 TRANS SPORT SHOW

With the rise of overlanding, American tire brand General Tire, with over 100 years of manufacturing experience dating back to 1915 in Ohio, re-enters the Philippine market at the 2024 Trans Sport Show. Partnering with YHI Philippines, Inc., importer and distributor of automotive products, General Tire aims to expand its presence in the Philippines. Jason Delloso, General Manager of YHI Philippines, stated, “Our mission is to carry on the brand’s legacy. We look forward to growing General Tire’s market share with our initial lineup and future models, catering to the local SUV and 4×4 scene.”

Jimmy He, Senior Manager of YHI HQ Singapore, highlighted the brand’s global presence, “General Tire stands as a beacon of innovation and excellence with over 100 years of history. We are honored to bring this distinguished brand to the Philippines as part of our tire portfolio.”

Continental, which acquired General Tire in 1987, is expanding its reach in the Asia Pacific, with a new manufacturing plant in Thailand. Jaey Wang, Continental’s Head of Sales and Marketing for Asia Pacific Export Markets, said, “Our advanced plant in APAC allows us to supply high-quality General Tire products with shorter lead times.” This expansion supports the growing Philippine overlanding community.

General Tire is renowned for its SUV and pickup tire technology, delivering unmatched performance across all terrains. The Grabber HT6 offers exceptional handling and comfort for everyday urban use. The Grabber AT6 provides all-terrain toughness without sacrificing on-road comfort, ideal for dynamic lifestyles. The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
