B & P All Day Breakfast – Comfort Food

When it comes to choosing where and what to eat, you could say that I hardly go out of my comfort zone. This is especially true for breakfast. Since it is the first meal of the day, having a satisfactory experience with food can truly make my day, and the reverse is also true. If I am not feeling well and feel so hungry, I always want my comfort food. I know everyone of us has his/her own comfort food. For me, noodles, egg and rice will most often do.

With all the new restaurant concepts available in the metro, however, I couldn’t help but join the bandwagon of adventurous souls to see what could be out there. Recently, I got the chance to try the B & P All Day breakfast restaurant in Cyberscape Alpha, Garnet Road in Ortigas. It is among the concepts by the Cravings Group. I had a nice previous experience with Cravings and that inched up my expectations of B&P.

True enough, I found the place to be cool and comfortable with it laid-back, wooden set-up. The yellow lighting provided a relaxing ambiance, carrying the open kitchen concept where my son enjoyed watching the chef as she was preparing our meal. With its relaxing ambiance, I didn’t get into the mad mood even if the food that was served to me was not what I asked for and it took time before the correct order was served because the staff are smiling and accommodating.

Pan Fried Bangus Belly

I ordered Creole eggs with all-beef patty in red wine with demi glaced top with spinach and poached egg. It was served with hash brown which I wanted to be replaced with garlic rice, and yet, they still served it with hash brown so I had to order an extra fried rice for it. My son and wife ordered a pan fried bangus belly, adobo rice, egg and pickled relish.

B and P Menu

Overall, I could confidently say that the food tasted great and really comforting. I look forward to return and by then, I am excited to see how the young chefs can create further twists to comfort home food.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
