Richmonde Hotel on Any Given Day

Some of the best bonding moments of our family have happened on unexpected day and time. One example was last week, when we checked in to Richmonde Hotel without any prior plan.

In fact, we were halfway through a traffic along Ortigas when we decided that a cold, rainy afternoon and a clear calendar (which rarely happens) would call for an overnight get-together.

Since we are reluctant to travel any further, and remembering that Richmonde Hotel has rainy day promo during this season, it wasn’t hard to get a consensus in our choice.

As expected, Richmonde has delivered in terms of very good customer service. For instance, my mom left her stuff in a restroom at the lobby ground floor. The friendly staff promptly called her attention and then returned the item to her. It also wasn’t difficult to request for a late check-out, considering that it was almost 5:00pm when we checked in.

The quality of the beds and linens inside an air-conditioned room were enough to make one snuggle through them the whole night. I was a couch potato again, streaming through the various channels on TV in from of me and my son beside me.

These moments are a rarity these days. The last time I had this opportunity was over a year ago, so I am deeply thankful for this opportunity,  and am very glad to have chosen this hotel.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries. Welcome to Side Tripper, a collection of photographs and blogs about the many side trip adventures of our family and friends. *Source: The Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the U.S. Travel Association (Los Angeles Times, December 17, 2013 by Chris Erskine)
