Hassan Kabab and Steaks

It was a long holiday and the Metropolis was unusually quiet since almost everyone is either out of town or stayed in their homes. It was so hard to find a restaurant that’s open and you were craving for something to eat. It’s worse when what you crave for is something infrequently ordered such as a grilled lamb, and you know for sure that the restaurant serving this would also be close. But then, suddenly you would receive a text message assuring you that of a Mediterranean  restaurant on 24-7 operation along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City serving grilled lamb, kabab, steak and other cuisines.

Hassan Kabab and Steaks Katipunan Branch

Hassan Kabab and Steak is open 24 hours a day located along the stretch of Katipunan Avenue, Along Quirino Memorial Medical Center side. If you are driving from Ateneo, it is almost the end of Katipunan road near Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue. The place seems to be a fusion of a mini-bar and restaurant and divides itself into two areas. One is an open area for smokers because we know that the place is popular during night time. People who don’t smoke and want to dine with a little drink after work can opt to sit in the aircon area.

You will find a variety in their menu: from shawarma, kabab and sizzling steaks. Just make sure to read them all and maybe ask a little bit more info about what combination or platter best suits you because there are many combos and platter available. For instance, my wife and son ordered a combination of chicken and beef kabab. Combination plates are served with grilled tomato and onion. You can upgrade your rice to buttered version, Hassan or basmati rice.

Food menu overall is acceptable for the price.

The place has  a wifi and wide flat screen cable TV available. The only problem is the limited parking area, unless you’re willing to park your car at the side during the night.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
