BYD Claims Global Crown in New Energy Vehicle Sales, Surpassing 3 Million Electric Vehicles Sold in 2023

BYD has once again asserted its dominance as the global leader in New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sales, exceeding its ambitious target by selling over 3 million vehicles in 2023. This marks the second consecutive year that BYD has taken the lead in worldwide electric vehicle sales.

In addition to securing the top spot in NEV sales, BYD achieved a remarkable presence in the Top 10 of global automotive sales for 2023. Furthermore, BYD continued to outpace all other car brands and manufacturers in Chinese domestic vehicle sales, maintaining its stronghold in the competitive market.

The total number of vehicles sold by BYD in 2023 reached an impressive 3,024,417, reflecting a substantial 61.9% increase from the previous year. Among these, approximately 1.6 million were Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), while 1.4 million comprised Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) manufactured by BYD.

Notably, BYD led the global Battery Electric Vehicle sales in Q4 2023, selling 526,409 all-electric vehicles and securing its position as the undisputed BEV sales champion for that quarter.

Mobility Access Philippines Ventures, Inc. (MAPVI), the exclusive distributor of BYD cars in the Philippines, expressed delight and pride in BYD’s achievements. As part of Ayala Corporation’s automotive arm, AC Motors, MAPVI is committed to advancing the group’s sustainability goals by introducing and promoting BYD Electric Vehicles in the Philippines.

Antonio Zara III, President of MAPVI, emphasized the commitment to making BYD cars more accessible to Filipinos by democratizing their cars and services, creating avenues for understanding and appreciating the benefits of Electric Vehicles.

In 2023, BYD experienced exponential global expansion with international sales soaring by 334.2%, totaling 242,765 vehicles sold in over 70 countries on six continents.

The BYD Dynasty and Ocean series models played a pivotal role in this success, achieving record-setting sales of 2,877,353 units in 2023—an impressive 55.3% increase from the previous year. Key models include the BYD Han luxury sedan and the BYD Tang Real-time Electric All-wheel Drive seven-seat crossover in the Dynasty line, as well as the BYD Dolphin BEV hatchback and the BYD ATTO3 BEV subcompact crossover in the Ocean series.

All four models are currently available in the Philippines through BYD Cars Philippines.

Since its inception in 1995 as a battery manufacturer, BYD has evolved into a technological powerhouse, spanning automotive and industrial manufacturing, solar power storage, and mass transportation solutions. As a steadfast advocate for electric vehicle technology, BYD remains committed to providing eco-friendly and efficient mobility solutions to consumers worldwide, supported by its solid manufacturing expertise and global partnerships.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
