Revolutionizing the electric vehicle landscape, BYD is driving the Philippines toward a greener future, solidifying its leadership with 4,780 New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) sold, and making electric mobility accessible and innovative.

Manila, Philippines, February 3, 2025 — BYD Cars Philippines, under Ayala’s ACMobility platform, achieved a monumental breakthrough in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market. In 2024, the company sold 4,780 BYD vehicles, securing an 82% share in the Philippine NEV market. Of these, 2,078 units included BEVs like the Seagull, Dolphin, Atto 3, and Tang, giving BYD a commanding 69% share of the BEV segment.

The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i emerged as the best-seller, with 2,669 units sold and a 19% share in the combined NEV and HEV segments. This remarkable success led to an astounding 8,900% year-on-year growth, ranking BYD as the 11th best-selling automotive brand in the Philippines.

Globally, BYD sold 4.27 million NEVs in 2024, cementing its position as the world’s leading NEV manufacturer.

Managing Director Bob Palanca highlighted the brand’s commitment to a greener future, while the expansion of dealerships, now at 25 with plans for 52 more, and a nationwide BYD Tech Tour, are set to sustain the brand’s momentum in 2025.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries. Welcome to Side Tripper, a collection of photographs and blogs about the many side trip adventures of our family and friends. *Source: The Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the U.S. Travel Association (Los Angeles Times, December 17, 2013 by Chris Erskine)
