BYD Battery Electric Vehicles Vie for Top Honors in 2024 World Car of the Year Awards

BYD’s battery electric vehicles are making waves in the 2024 World Car of the Year Awards, with the BYD Seal performance sedan named as a Top 10 Finalist for the overall WCOTY title, and the BYD Dolphin hatchback securing a spot as a Top 5 Finalist in the 2024 World Urban Car category. Both the Seal and Dolphin models are also contenders for the 2024 World Car Design of the Year award.

Joining these finalists is the BYD Atto 3 subcompact crossover, rounding out BYD’s impressive showing with three entries among the initial 36-car list of qualifiers for the World Car Awards this year. This achievement positions BYD as one of only two brands boasting three eligible entries for the prestigious World Car of the Year prize.

Antonio Zara III, President of Mobility Access Philippines Ventures, Inc. (MAPVI), the exclusive distributor of BYD cars in the country, expresses pride in BYD’s recognition by stating, “We proudly welcome the inclusion of the BYD Seal and the Dolphin in the World Car of the Year’s finalists for 2024. To have two models in top contention in this year’s awards is a notable feat while having three in the original eligibility list speaks volumes about BYD as a brand and as a global leader in the New Energy Vehicle space.”

Zara emphasizes the significance of BYD’s presence in the Philippine market, noting that both the Atto 3 and Dolphin models are already available at BYD Cars Philippines dealerships. He highlights their appeal to local consumers, citing innovation, technology, safety, range, and accessibility as core brand advantages. Zara also mentions the support of the Ayala Corporation in expanding EV infrastructure with the installation of 160 EV charging stations this year, making BYD electric vehicles increasingly practical and sustainable options for Filipino car buyers.

Celebrating its 20th year, the World Car Awards involves over 100 jurors comprising esteemed motoring journalists from around the world. These jurors are tasked with recognizing and rewarding automotive excellence, leadership, and innovation globally, reflecting the dynamic nature of the automotive industry.

To qualify for the World Car of the Year award, vehicles must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units per year and priced below the luxury car level in their primary markets. They must also be available for sale in at least two major markets on two separate continents from January 1, 2023, to March 30, 2024.

BYD Cars Philippines offers a range of Battery Electric Vehicle models, including the premium BYD Han sedan and the seven-seat BYD Tang crossover. Among these offerings, the BYD Dolphin stands out as a five-seat compact hatchback designed for urban driving. As part of the BYD Ocean Series of EVs, the Dolphin features a futuristic design and spacious interior, catering to both comfort and practicality.

Powered by the BYD e-platform 3.0, the Dolphin ensures a smooth ride with ample space for passengers and cargo. Its extensive safety features and impressive range make it an attractive option for environmentally conscious consumers, priced competitively at PHP 1,398,000.

Similarly, the BYD Atto 3 presents a stylish and practical choice in the electric vehicle market, featuring a gym-inspired interior and advanced infotainment system. With its Blade Battery Technology and robust safety features, the Atto 3 offers a compelling driving experience, available in two variants priced from PHP 1,598,000 to PHP 1,798,000.

Customers purchasing BYD vehicles benefit from comprehensive warranties covering the vehicle, battery pack, and electric motor, providing peace of mind for their investment.

For those interested in experiencing BYD’s electric vehicles firsthand, test drives and reservations are now available at BYD Cars Philippines’ authorized dealerships in Quezon Avenue and Makati, as well as through the brand’s official website and social media platforms.”

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
