Have you been to Burgoo lately? – Burgoo American Bar and Restaurant

It’s been a while for me, admittedly. Yet, it’s promo that ran until March 31 was so tempting that I thought I’d regret it if I let it pass. It’s about this restaurant giving a free Burgoo sampler for a minimum order of PhP 500.

My family and I happen to be big fans of onion rings, mozzarella sticks, French fries dipped in cheese sauce and Buffalo chicken wings. Imagine all these coming free in a sharing-sized platter, if we’d only shell out at least PhP500?

I was in for only that promo, but then to my surprise, Burgoo has levelled up when it comes to their serving portions, taste and most glaring of all is the very good customer service we had experienced on that day of our visit.

Chicken Alfredo Pasta

Grilled Lamb

On food, we could forgive the price as the serving size is good enough to share for 2 people. This holds true for the chicken Alfredo pasta, grilled lamb  and the side dishes that we ordered on top of our freebee.

I could sense the desire to please among all staff and crew. For instance, my son’s slippers fell twice because our seats were higher than the usual. The crew was quite quick to pick them up for him.  Also, when we were given the wrong order, the crew was very apologetic and quick to replace it.

In addition, the time it took to prepare our order was reasonable: around 10-12 minutes in my estimate.

    The Side Tripper

“Make sure you don’t take any side trips,” warns Schumler, from a phrase in the 1993 American film Swing Kids. If you are someone who does not have time to lose, then it is better for you to stick to your main agenda, because there is something about side tripping that submerges the soul in experiences that sometimes make you hope that time would stand still, as the experiences they bring can be more impactful than the main trip itself. It is that free flowing agenda, an unexpected sleepover or a detour that has unintentionally brought pleasant surprises. You can live without it, like you can eat a cake without its icing, but your journey may not be as meaningful. If travel is the ‘best medicine for the heart’,* then for me, side trips are secret ingredients to the most memorable travels and other events that can happen in between or off the main route of one’s itineraries.
